A four-day programme of events, including a village picnic, cricket tournament and fireworks display, will celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee in Addingham.

A jubilee steering group has been working with Addingham businesses, residents and organisations to stage a variety of free community events over the jubilee bank holiday weekend, from June 2 to 5.

A screening of Oscar-winning film The Queen, a hog roast, a party night and a joint celebration by Addingham’s four churches are among the festivities.

Sponsorship is being provided by Addingham Millennium Trust, Addingham Civic Society and other village organisations.

Organisers of the jubilee programme said: “We are extremely fortunate to have some very generous financial sponsorship, which means that all the events are free to attend, though you’ll have to buy your own drinks and popcorn.”

A hog roast at the Craven Heifer pub and 888 Provinces restaurant will start the celebrations at noon on Saturday, June 2, followed by the screening of The Queen at Addingham Memorial Hall at 7pm.

A free party night, with live music, will be taking place at The Swan from 9pm, with some specially-brewed jubilee ales on offer.

Families are invited to descend on Addingham Primary School on Sunday, June 3, for the village’s jubilee picnic, from noon to 4pm, with refreshments on offer, music, competitions, a bouncy castle and more.

At 6pm, the leaders and congregations of Addingham’s four churches will meet at St Peter’s Church for a jubilee service.

One the same day, an “East meets West” Sunday lunch and tea will be on offer at the Craven Heifer and 888 Provinces, and there will be a Music Through the Decades quiz at The Swan from 8pm.

A full peal of bells will be rung from St Peter’s Church from 9.30am to noon on Monday, June 4, and a six-a-side cricket competition, followed by a fireworks display, will be held at Addingham Cricket Club the same day.

Traditional afternoon teas will be on offer on Tuesday, June 5.
