Two council clerks are heading off to North America after winning an international exchange competition.
Ilkley resident Miggy Bailey, clerk at Keighley Town Council, took part in a contest organised by the Society of Local Council Clerks.
She has received a bursary of £850, enabling her to attend the International Institute of Municipal Clerks International Clerks’ Convention in Oregon from this Sunday to next Thursday.
Also travelling to the event in the city of Portland will be fellow competition winner Jo Griffiths, the clerk to Burley-in-Wharfedale Parish Council.
Both clerks will broaden their horizons by meeting colleagues from across the world.
The competition judges were particularly impressed by the two clerks’ entries, after entrants were asked to write articles describing interesting projects they had participated in through their role.
Ms Bailey wrote about Keighley Town Council’s conversion of the disused North Street police station into a new civic centre, while Ms Griffiths wrote about her own council’s involvement in the Burley Summer Festival.
