Choirs from Ilkley and Otley will join forces on June 1 for a fundraising concert in support of Ilkley’s Oasis Café.

Ilkley Moornotes Community Choir plans to put on a concert in conjunction with Otley Singers to raise money for the café, a church-led project providing work for people with learning disabilities.

The Oasis Café is moving from its long-term base at an All Saints Parish Church-owned building this summer, and plans to move to large premises at the former Glovers garage building on Bridge Lane.

The move will allow it to open six days a week as a community café, still serving meals, snacks and drinks but also with the intention of providing a resource and focus for bringing together the community in Ilkley in a way which will enrich the town.

Fundraising is already underway for the refit of the building.

The concert will take place at the Sanctuary, Christchurch, Ilkley at 7.30pm.

Ilkley Moornotes was set up four years ago by Dave Robinson and is now led by singer and songwriter Beccy Owen.

The choir has steadily grown and now has more than 30 regular members at its Monday evening meetings at the Friends’ Meeting House. It has a wide repertoire which includes pop, folk and songs from around the world.

Moornotes has put on a range acclaimed concerts in the past which it has organised itself or have been part of the Grassington and the Ilkley Arts Festivals.

The June concert will be the first where the choir will be raising money for a local cause.

Tickets are available from Christchurch, Ilkley Visitor Information Centre or by calling Kate Burns on (01943) 604003.

A further joint concert given by Ilkley Moornotes and Otley Singers has been organised for Friday June 15 at The Courthouse, Otley, in aid of Otley Singing for the Brain.
