Two people managed to scramble to safety after a black Land Rover Discovery crashed through a wall and into Chelker Reservoir, near Addingham, earlier today.
Police said the vehicle was heading towards Addingham on the A65 when the vehicle left the road at around 1.20pm.
The driver of the vehicle, a woman believed to be in her 50s, and her passenger, an 89-year-old woman, managed to get themselves out of the vehicle to safety.
It is understood the driver escaped unhurt, but the 89-year-old woman suffered a head injury and has been airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment. The extent of her injuries are unknown at this time.
The road is currently closed in both directions as police conduct their investigations into the collision.
Officers are appealing for witnesses to get in touch with the force control room on 101, quoting reference number NYP-15052012-0195.
