Village organisations and Bradford Council officers are to be brought together to discuss plans for sports facilities and a new Scout hut in Addingham.

Ward councillor Adrian Naylor aims to bring senior officers face-to-face with representatives of Addingham Civic Society, Addingham Parish Council and the village football club and Scouts groups to discuss plans for a multi-use sports area, new Scout centre and improvements to the Stockinger Lane football pavilion.

The parish council has been working with the footballers and the Scouts groups on a scheme to upgrade facilities for the football club, and provide a new base in the village for the Scouts.

The Scouts lost their old hut when the parish council sold the site for the new Addingham Medical Centre.

Addingham Civic Society recently began looking into a project to give Addingham its own multi-use games area, which could cost about £85,000 with all-weather surfacing.

A more basic surfaced area has been estimated to cost about £35,000.

It was suggested that all the organisations involved should get together to discuss their aims, and consider linking the projects – although possibly applying for funding from different pots.

Coun Naylor (Con, Craven) says Bradford Council’s assistant director of parks and landscapes had promised to send teams to talk to all those interested in the recreation projects in Addingham.

Potential sources of funding are still separate, he says, although the Government is encouraging communities to come up with unified views of how they want local facilities to develop.

“At the moment, all the Government is saying is think holistically and have a plan for the village, but the funding streams are very much still in silos,” said Coun Naylor.

He believes demonstrating that facilities are not being developed in isolation could improve the chances of all organisations involved gaining funding.

Addingham Parish Council recently agreed to fund a planning application for the redevelopment of the Stockinger Lane football pavilion plus a new Scout centre.

Parish councillors asked how the games area would be maintained and managed if it is built.
