Budding movie-makers are celebrating after their work was chosen for screening at one of the country’s biggest film festivals.

And it was another success for media studies students at Ilkley Grammar School, which had more successful entries into the Co-Operative Young Filmmakers Festival than any other UK school or college.

The festival takes place at the National Media Museum in Bradford today and tomorrow, with films called Waxed, Wrenched and Sleep Tight, by Ilkley Grammar pupils, screened at the prestigious national event.

Music videos for We Are The Ocean’s song Confessions, made by Lucy Mannall and Mary Jenner, with Chris Lawrence, and Joy Division’s song Disorder, by Callum Moreman, Joel Colborne and Jonny Hughes, will also be shown.

Their entries were among 92 chosen from 162 productions submitted by budding young film-makers, schools, youth and art groups, colleges and video workshops from across the country and beyond.

All the selected films, which are six minutes long or less, are from youngsters aged 19 or under.

They include drama, documentary, animation and comedy films as well as music videos, and they will be shown during eight screenings across the two-day event.

The Co-operative film festival is organised by The Co-operative Group, and has provided young people with the opportunity to air their films on the big screen since 1966, including festival patron Edgar Wright, the award-winning director of smash hits Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz, who had a film screened as a youngster.

Festival organiser Alicia Walker, project manager at The Co-operative Group, said: “The 2011 Co-operative film festival is all set to be the biggest and best in its 45-year history.

“This major film festival has helped showcase the talents of thousands of youngsters and inspired many to go on to work in the film industry.

“It’s a great opportunity for young film-makers to see their work on the big screen at this major national venue.”

Screenings are free, but advanced booking is recommended, and some workshops have a small admission fee.
