The latest on plans for a bridge across the River Wharfe will be revealed tonight.
News of the developments over the past year in the campaign by the Burley Bridge Association (BBA) for a safe crossing of the river at Burley-in-Wharfe-dale will be reported at the annual meeting.
Everyone is welcome at the event in the Salem Church Room, Main Street, Burley, at 7.30pm.
The BBA’s campaign started in 1996, when a meeting agreed the ‘stepping stones’ at Leather Bank were inadequate as a means of crossing the fast-flowing river.
Since then the condition of the stones has deteriorated further.
The public is now normally unable to use them.
When the river level is low, damaged stones and gaps are revealed. When the river is higher, the crossing is under water.
BBA members feel that this important right of way should be usable by the public, and that local opinion supports the idea of a bridge at Burley.
