Developers should pay nearly £350,000 to Bradford Council if plans for 135 new homes in Menston are accepted.

It is the total figure requested by the council’s departments of services to children and young people and environment and sport to cover secondary school and open space provision, according to two reports.

The reports are some of the latest documents to be attached to the planning application for 135 homes at Bingley Road, made by Taylor Wimpey.

In her report, Helen Latka, a research and development officer for the services to children and young people department, said developers would only have to make a contribution of £205,546 towards secondary education as there were places available at Menston Primary School.

“The nearest secondary school is Ilkley Grammar, which is full, and adding to this there is an increase in population within this area so a secondary contribution would be required,” she said.

Nanette Metcalf, a development officer with the council’s sport and leisure services, said Taylor Wimpey should pay £138,028 towards the “provision of enhancement of recreation facilities in the vicinity of the development”.

The application will be decided by the councillors along with a similar one for 174 homes on Derry Hill, Menston, made by Barratt Homes last year.

Both applications will not be considered before Tuesday, April 19.
