Young gardeners in Pool-in-Wharfedale have been getting their hands dirty for charity.

Reception class pupils at Pool C of E Primary School joined a UK-wide daffodil growing campaign in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Mini Pots of Care scheme involves three to 11 year olds planting a daffodil, which is the charity’s emblem, in a mini-pot during the autumn term and caring for it through the winter months. Then in the spring the children celebrate the flowering of their bulbs by painting daffodil pot wrappers and entering a competition for the best design.

The final part of the project will see them taking their pots home to give to someone they care about, in return for a small donation to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
