Two thieves who targeted an Ilkley store hid whisky in a wheelchair, a court heard.

Nicholas Kennard allowed Colin McCringle to hide four bottles of spirits behind his chair, magistrates in Bingley were told yesterday.

Kennard, 39, of Spennithorne Avenue, Leeds – who appeared in court in his wheelchair – and McCringle, 42, of The Avenue, Roundhay, Leeds, both admitted theft at Booths Supermarket in Leeds Road, Ilkley, on October 15 last year. McCringle was told the Bench was considering a community order. Sentence was adjourned until March 7. He was remanded on bail. Kennard was fined £80, ordered to pay £40 court costs, a £15 victim surcharge and £30 compensation.

Magistrates heard four bottles of whisky, valued at £60, were hidden behind Kennard. The men paid for some food items but not the spirits.
