PLANS to demolish a house in Addingham and build seven three-storey homes are being opposed by village councillors as well as residents.

Addingham Parish Council is asking Bradford Council planners to reject the plan for the plot at 1 Moor Lane after 21 objectors turned up at last Wednesday’s council meeting.

The concerns of nearby residents ranged from worries about additional traffic and the houses being out of character, to fears about neighbours’ living rooms being overlooked. There is also concern about possible flood risks created by the culverting of a nearby stream.

People who attended last week’s meeting raised the issue of mature trees on the plot being felled. However, councillors said there was nothing to prevent trees not covered by tree protection orders being pulled down.

Although there are other townhouses of the same scale elsewhere in the village, said councillors, the proposed Moor Lane houses would appear out of character, as the surrounding properties included bungalows and two-storey houses.

The parish council also claimed the scheme would be an over-development of the plot.

Councillors took into account many of the issues raised by residents at last week’s meeting.

Around 30 Addingham residents have written to Bradford Council about the scheme.

The plan is expected to be determined by Bradford Council.
