ILKLEY’S riverside rocked around the clock over the weekend with two days of music and fun for all the family.

The Bradford Council-organised Picnic and Party in the Park shifted the focus of the Ilkley Summer Festival to the Riverside Gardens on Saturday and Sunday.

The star acts of the weekend were energetic musician and songwriter Mike Sanchez, with his mix of rhythm and blues and rock ‘n’ roll, and top Freddie Mercury tribute singer Steve Littlewood, aka The Great Pretender.

A big top was set up in the park as the centrepiece to the event, and providing shelter in case of bad weather. Luckily, the weekend proved to be warm and dry.

There was a retro 1950s theme on Saturday, as rock ‘n’ roll and boogie took centre stage, in the build-up to the performance by Mike Sanchez and his band in the evening. Ilkley’s own Jolly Jivers were guest DJs between the acts, and they invited fellow 1950s enthusiasts to put on a show by getting down to some jive.

The dazzling tribute to the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury was the top act on Sunday.

The entertainment at the eighth Ilkley Summer Festival carries on this weekend, as the Dolce Vita Cabaret comes to The Grove on Saturday.
