AN international flavour came to Ilkley’s central shopping street as food, drink and goods from many nations went on sale at the weekend.

The ever-popular Ilkley Summer Festival Continental Street Market turned the Grove into a pedestrian-only market place for three days, from Friday until Sunday.

The market has been a part of the festival, now in its eighth year, since the beginning, and brings in many visitors from outside the town.

The weather may not have matched the sunnier climes of the Mediterranean, but there was still a good helping of olives, paella and other treats on offer, and plenty of shoppers came into the town centre.

A Polish beer garden was set up on the Grove, as well as stalls selling food and drink from France, Spain, the Netherlands, Greece and Germany and clothes, jewellery, plants, flowers and garden furniture from Finland and Italy.

There were also stalls selling wares from much further around the world, including decorative goods from India, and miniature bonsai trees.

Adding to the Continental market atmosphere, musicians played at the bandstand on the Grove through the weekend.
