Tickets are selling fast ahead of the Burley-in-Wharfedale Summer Festival.

Some of the children’s events at the ten-day festival, from Saturday, August 21, to Monday, August 30, are already fully booked, while others are close to selling out.

And now organisers have revealed details of more events taking place at the festival, including the two films to be shown at Queen’s Hall on Monday, August 23.

Animated family film Ponyo, made by Japanese director Miyazaki Sasuke, will be shown at 2pm, with tickets costing £2.

Then at 7.30pm, the Coen brothers black comedy A Serious Man is being shown with tickets priced at £3.50.

Meanwhile, a group of professional artists will be passing on their creative skills during the festival’s arts day on Wednesday, August 25.

Specialists from the Rural Arts project based in Thirsk will offer their expertise to adults and youngsters who want to get creative with stone, metal or textiles.

Anyone can try their hand at stone carving, junk metal modelling and textile work such as batik and felt-making, in the Queen’s Hall.

The event is split into two three-hour sessions with tickets costing £10 for a three-hour session or £16 for the full day and is aimed at adults and young people over the age of 11.

Full details of all the festival events can be found at the village website at burley-in-wharfedale.org and booking forms can also be downloaded from the website.

Tickets to any event can be bought from the parish council office in the Queen’s Hall on Wednesday mornings or from the Burley Library on Tuesday afternoons or Saturday mornings.
