Members of an Addingham golf club expect to raise more than £500 for charity after speeding their way to a record round.

More than 130 golfers at the Bracken Ghyll course took part in the fastest round of golf – or Frog – challenge on Saturday to raise the money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Frog involves having players stationed all around the course to get a ball from the first tee to the 18th hole as quickly as possible.

And after trials and tribulations, and setting ten balls off at one-minute intervals, captain Kevin Dixon finally putted ball number seven on the 18th green for a time of 24 minutes and seven seconds for the round.

The balls were set on their way at the first tee by Jack Osborn, who had the idea for Frog, while vice-captain Nick Cook said it was something the club were keen to try again.

“We’re definitely going to do this again - and with the benefit of this year’s experience, next year we’ll knock lots of time off this figure – but, for now we do have a Frog record at Bracken Ghyll,” Mr Cook said.

Many club members had obtained sponsorship for the Frog attempt with a prize of £100 going to whoever most accurately predicted the time taken.

So far about £900 has been received which will be split between the club and the captain’s charity, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Mr Dixon said: “It is hoped that more money will be received in the next few days to push this into four figures.”
