Ilkley's Rotary clubs have joined forces to send aid to the millions of flood victims in Pakistan.

The two clubs are providing emergency shelter and equipment which will be airlifted to the country’s worst hit areas. Called Shelterboxes, each survival kit contains essential items such as a tent, emergency food and clothing, water purification and cooking equipment and other basics needed for survival in the immediate aftermath of a major disaster.

With more rain and flooding forecast, Pakistan is bracing itself for more devastation after the country’s worst floods for 80 years left 1,400 people dead and one million homeless.

Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary Club president Michael Booth said: “The Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale and the Ilkley Rotary Club will be carrying out a street collection in Ilkley on Saturday, August 14, and know that as always they can count on the generosity of Ilkley folk to support this latest appeal.”
