Guided walks on the theme of different periods of local history, and an insight into the work of two Ilkley artists, are among the regular free events running through the festival month.

Eight popular Ilkley Heritage Guided Walks promise to give visitors and residents alike a closer look at historical sites around the town, complete with talks from experts on local history.

The first walks will take place on Wednesday, with a walk looking at Prehistoric Rombalds Moor at 2pm, and a walk taking in the Villas of the Northern Slopes, starting at 7pm. Walkers should meet at the Cow and Calf car park for the moor walk, and at the visitor information centre, Ilkley Town Hall, for the second walk.

A walk along the Riverside to the cemetery will set off at 2pm on Wednesday, August 11. Further walks, on August 15, 18, 22 and 24 will focus on aspects of local heritage varying from the Artisan Town, Victorian Moorside and Ilkley Bath Charity Hospital to Roman Ilkley.

Art lovers will be offered a look behind the scenes at the studio of two Ilkley artists on four Sundays in August.

Joy Godfrey and sister Chris Bailey will open the studio at Unit 4, Back Nelson Road, between 2pm and 4.30pm this Sunday and on August 8, 15, and 22.

Visitors will be able to meet the artists, view selected pieces of their work and talk to them about their techniques.

Joy specialises in painting and silkscreen printing, while Chris’ specialism is ceramics and kiln-fused glass.
