WHAT a bewitching performance. It was a real accolade for Ilkley Upstagers to be asked, as just one of 12 amateur groups, by Sir Cameron MacKintosh to perform this superbly funny musical. He must have been well pleased with the result.

As always Upstagers gave a very polished performance and they deserve great credit for first of all taking the risk of staging a £30,000 production in a city venue and secondly for carrying it off with great aplomb.

Gill Jackson and her protegees can truly bask in the glory that is theirs after this amazing show.

This racy musical about three bored housewives whose lives are shaken up by a mysterious stranger fairly whizzed along.

What a delight it was. It was a production bursting with life and bursting with colour. The chorus numbers were magnificent with excellent choreography and strong, rounded sounds.

The score was unfamiliar but this failed to detract from the enjoyment as each number was delivered in superb style.

The three witches' Samantha Ball, Katrina Wood and Caroline Bright changed at will from mousy matrons to sexy, sultry sirens and eventually vengeful vixens.

Despite Caroline's fear of heights they pulled off the flying scene with aplomb.

The humour was delivered with great style by Gary Dearlove who was a magnificent Daryl Van Horne.

A real cameo came from Helen Clarke as the ghastly Felicia while her hapless husband Clyde was superbly played by Nigel Dixon.

This was truly a magnificent all round performance by every member of the cast.
