TWO successful Ilkley artists will open their studios and share tips on their art techniques as part of this year’s summer festival.

Festival regulars, sisters Joy Godfrey and Chris Bailey, are inviting visitors to drop into the studios on Back Nelson Road between 2pm and 4.30pm on Sundays until August 23.

Joy has used a variety of media including oil paints, watercolours, lost wax bronze casting and silk screen prints and etchings, while Chris is best known for her work in ceramics and glass.

One of Joy’s works, a limited edition silkscreen print depicting the 800-year-old Laund Oak at Bolton Abbey, has just been accepted for the annual Artists’ Show at Leeds City Art Gallery.

She has depicted the tree many times before, in sketches, watercolours, and in a huge five-part canvas, more than eight feet wide, which can be seen at her studio.

Joy was delighted to have her silkscreen print of the Laund Oak accepted for the Leeds exhibition.

She said: “I am particularly pleased to have a work in this year’s exhibition. My interest in the Bolton Abbey area was rekindled when I was invited to be the resident artist at the Cavendish Pavilion and I am also showing my work at the Strid Visitor Centre, supporting my sister who is showing her ceramics and kiln-fused glass.”
