Despite objections from two businesses, further parking restrictions are to be imposed in the village of Addingham.

During a meeting of the Keighley Area Committee last month members considered two objections to proposed new parking restrictions on Main Street.

The plan to impose the restrictions was devised after complaints that parked vehicles around the post office restricted visibility for traffic on the road.

The plan is to paint double yellow lines on the post office side of the street from a few metres past Old Station Way to a point opposite the library. On the other side, the yellow lines would stretch from a few yards beyond Old Station Way to a point half way along the Hen Pen Garden.

Two objections were received to the plan, one saying that it would adversely affect businesses in the area and another saying that patients using the doctor’s surgery would not find places to park.

The objections were overruled because visibility around the bend is severely restricted and, with the opening of the new medical centre next summer, patients will be able to park there. Coupled with the 20mph restriction on Main Street, campaigners believe the village will be a safer place for pedestrians and motorists.

At their last meeting, parish councillors discussed paying for extra car parking spaces in the Swan public house car park and said they were negotiating with the landlord of the pub over the cost.

Parish council vice-chairman Ian Taylor said that the lines should be painted early in the new year along with the implementation of new speed restrictions on the Addingham bypass.
