A women's rounders club that began with a social media post asking if anyone fancied a game is celebrating a remarkable double promotion after both of its teams topped their leagues.
Aireborough Belters, based at Yeadon Cricket Club, will advance from Division 3 to Division 2 after achieving an impressive third consecutive season undefeated.
The club's newer team, Aireborough Belters Blues, also had a successful season, winning eight of their nine games to finish first in Division 6 and secure promotion to Division 5.
The club's achievements mark a significant milestone for a group that began in 2023 with a simple online post looking for people interested in a friendly game of rounders.
Three years later, Aireborough Belters has grown to more than 25 women across two teams, bringing together players of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Coach Cheryl Wells said: "It’s amazing to think that the club started in 2023 with a post on social media asking if anyone fancied a game of rounders.
"Three years later, we have more than 25 women playing, two teams, and we’ve just celebrated a double promotion.
"We’re incredibly proud of what both teams have achieved.
"Three undefeated seasons for the Belters is something really special, and for the Blues to win eight out of nine games and earn promotion is a fantastic achievement too."
Both teams train and play their home games at Yeadon Cricket Club, which has provided a home for the Belters as the club has grown.
The teams are also backed by local businesses and organisations, including Yeadon Cricket Club, Frank Marshall Estates Ltd, PC Sports Yeadon Ltd, JMG Insurance Brokers, New Era Fitness, and Paris' Pet Portraits.
The Belters said the support of their sponsors has played an important part in helping the club develop while strengthening its links with the local community.
Ms Wells added: "But one of the best things has been seeing the club grow.
"We have women who have played competitively before alongside people who hadn't picked up a rounders bat since school.
"It’s competitive, but it’s also about getting active, meeting people, and being part of a team."
Anyone interested in joining Aireborough Belters for the 2027 season can get in touch with the club through its Facebook page and attend a training session.
