NEW images have been released that give an “exciting glimpse” into how Leeds Bradford Airport’s expansion will look once it has been completed.
The airport, based in Yeadon, is in the midst of a major £100 million transformation, which includes a terminal expansion.
This is the first phase of the regeneration project and is scheduled to be finished by this summer.
Passengers will then be welcomed into the new terminal extension, which will complement the airport’s existing facilities and provide a “seamless gateway to over 80 destinations worldwide”.
How LBA should look come Summer 2025 (Image: LBA) LBA has today released a video and new CGI visuals to showcase what people can expect.
It provides an expansive look at the new space, which includes a departure lounge that has been meticulously designed for optimal passenger comfort.

The video and images also present a first look at what the exterior of LBA will look like in the future.

LBA says this highlights the terminal’s “contemporary design, showcasing LBA’s vision for a state-of-the-art, efficient, and environmentally friendly airport”.

The former has been designed to streamline the arrivals process for travellers, while the latter will incorporate cutting-edge security technology.

“Our transformative terminal expansion is not only about creating a modern, comfortable airport experience for travellers but also about building a sustainable future for travel in the region.
“With construction progressing on schedule, we look forward to welcoming passengers to our upgraded facilities this summer.”
Phase two of the project will get underway once the terminal expansion is complete and this focuses on redeveloping the existing building to further enhance the airport’s overall infrastructure.

The new upgraded passport control area (Image: LBA) The expansion and LBA’s ‘Vision 2030’ strategy have been heavily criticised by environmental campaign group GALBA (Group for Action on Leeds Bradford Airport) in the past.
The strategy, announced last August, highlights ambitions to secure more routes to European hub airports with onward connectivity, as well as new destinations in the North Atlantic and Middle East.
But chair of GALBA, Nick Hodgkinson, believes LBA is big enough and most recently urged West Yorkshire's Mayor Tracy Brabin to withdraw her support for ‘Vision 2030’.
The group claims the airport’s predicted mark of reaching seven million passengers a year by the turn of the next decade would equate to around 15,000 more flights per annum and that this would cause “a huge rise in greenhouse gas emissions just when they need to be cut as fast as possible”.
Nick Hodgkinson, Chair of GALBA, said last August: “At present, the only reliable way to do that is to limit flying by limiting the capacity of airports.”
