AN airline has apologised after hours of disruption was caused for passengers onboard a flight set to land at Leeds Bradford Airport.

It affected those on the Jet2 LS244 service from Tenerife to the Yeadon-based airport on Sunday, January 26.

The airline has confirmed the disruption was caused due to a passenger needing "urgent assistance", along with "adverse weather conditions".

It led to the flight having to divert - landing in Manchester, six hours after it was scheduled to take off.

The Jet2 flight

The flight was originally set to take off from Tenerife South at 4.10pm.

However, it did not leave until 5.44pm.

At one point, the engines were shut down on the taxiway as the delays took hold.

Once away, the flight was then unable to land at Leeds Bradford Airport.

Jet2 say this was because one of passengers on the flight required "urgent assistance" as well as the "adverse weather conditions" at Leeds Bradford Airport.

A spokesperson added: "There were a number of go-arounds at LBA that evening due to fog.

"The flight deck correctly did not want to risk a go around given the situation with the passenger, so elected to divert to Manchester."

The plane eventually landed in Manchester at 10.08pm.

It was was supposed to be at Leeds Bradford for 8.50pm.

Jet2 statement

A spokesperson for Jet2 said: "We can confirm that our highly trained crew elected to divert flight LS244 to Manchester Airport on 26th January, due to a passenger requiring urgent assistance as well as the adverse weather conditions at Leeds Bradford Airport.

"We would like to apologise to customers for this experience.

"We would like to thank our crew for their handling of this matter."
