CLIMATE Action Ilkley will host its fifth annual Car Free Festival later this month.
The festival, which will take place on The Grove on Sunday, September 22, from 11am to 4pm, is inspired by World Car Free Day which happens every year on September 22.
The festival provides an opportunity to experience a central thoroughfare free of motor traffic and to ask the question ‘what would towns and cities be like if we give more space to pedestrians and cyclists’?
On the day, there will be a large range of different stalls and activities.
For children, there will be a Street Play and Pedal-on-the-Grove, provided by Ilkley Cycling Club.
Children from All Saints School will display the results of their Living Streets campaign which saw many more students walking, scooting and cycling to school.
Experience Community will bring a range of adaptive bikes for disabled people to try out.
People can also bring their bike along for a free service, provided by Capital of Cycling.
Culture Declares Emergency Hub will set up a pop-up sitting room.
Martinez will open their pop-up bar and stage for music in The Grove Park and there will be food and drink stalls.
This year’s festival is being held alongside the Ilkley Clean River Group’s national event: Cleaning Up Our Rivers, Lakes and Seas which will take place from 12:30pm to 4.30pm in Christchurch.
