A FUN-filled family dog show set tails wagging in the village of Burley-in-Wharfedale last weekend.
The popular ‘Burley in Woofdale’ Fun Dog Show brought hundreds of people to the village recreation ground for a day packed with activities for dogs of all shapes and sizes.
In the show ring categories ranged from Golden Oldies for dogs aged nine and over, Waggiest Tail and Scruffiest Mutt, while the Young Handler classes gave children aged from six to 11 a chance to show off their dog handling skills. Among the other dog classes were cheeky puppy aged six to 12 months, fabulous female and handsome hound, and happiest dog.
The Gun Dog Scurry and dog agility activities proved crowd pleasers, as did the fantastic photo booth, made by volunteers Ben and Andrea.
Fun games included an egg and spoon race and musical mats which were greatly enjoyed by dogs and their owners.
Animal charities Guide Dogs and Murphy’s Army were among the stall holders, and organisers said a special thank you to the show’s sponsors Tyler James Pet Supplies of Ilkley.
The winner of the fancy dress competition was Willow, a one-year-old dachshund wearing a hot dog costume while her owners came dressed as squeezy bottles of mustard and tomato ketchup pots. Owner Lisa White, of Burley-in-Wharfedale, said: “Willow’s favourite food is sausage, and she enjoys barking at people.”
She added that Willow loves to sleep right under the duvet and that because Willow is a sausage dog it made her think of the hot dog of the hot dog outfit.
In a post on Facebook, Burley in Woofdale organisers said: “Thank you to everyone who turned up for the dog show. The fancy dress, the activity ring and the dog scurry were just brilliant. We loved all the costumes. Thank you to our judges, Wendy Lacey and Kerry Ward, the Fairy Dogmother, and to all our wonderful stall holders.”
Burley in Woofdale Fun Dog Show is part of Burley Summer Festival, which runs until August 28.
