A MAN is fighting for his life after he was one of two people injured in a serious crash yesterday (Friday) afternoon.

A crash between two cars took place on the A65 at Addingham at around 2.30pm, closing the road and prompting a huge emergency response.

"Police were called at 2.33pm on Friday, March 1, to the A65 in Addingham following a report of a serious collision between two cars.

"Emergency services attended the scene, and a road closure was put in place while the incident was dealt with.

"A male from one of the vehicles was taken to hospital with a serious hand injury.

"A man from the other car suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital where he continues to be treated.

"Enquiries into the collision remain ongoing by officers from the Western area Roads Policing Unit."

The crash prompted a huge response from the emergency services, as the Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed that they sent two air ambulances, two ambulances and two rapid response vehicles.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We received an emergency call at 2.33pm on Friday to a report of a collision between two vehicles on the Addingham Bypass.

"A number of ambulance resources were dispatched to the scene and two patients were taken to hospital - one to Airedale Hospital and one to Leeds General Infirmary."

Anyone who saw or has footage of the collision, who has not yet spoken with officers, is asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit referencing police log 866 of March 1.
