ON Saturday February 24th , Ukrainians, now living in and around Ilkley, gathered at Christchurch Ilkley, to be together in peace on the second anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine.

This was a moment shared with friends, hosts and supporters, where Ukrainian music, culture and history were celebrated. This was a time to be together to reflect on the past two years, and find a moment of peace in everyone’s hearts and minds.

The music and stories were presented by Olena Ihnatenko, Larisa Korol, and Anna Tsurkan. The songs were performed by Ukrainian families and their children, wearing their traditional costumes.

There was a craft stall selling Ukrainian traditional gifts, to raise money for those in need in Ukraine. Everyone is very grateful for the money raised which totalled £585.

Christchurch was decorated with flowers, and flags of the colours of Ukraine, blue and yellow. Anna Tsurkan in her talk reflected ‘on the blue representing the sky above the yellow fields of wheat’.

Larisa Korol prayed for ‘peace in Ukraine’ and ‘thanked everyone in Christchurch, Ilkley and the surrounding area for their help, support, and welcome over the past two years’.

After the music, guests enjoyed delicious traditional Ukrainian cakes.
