HOMECARE company, Carers and Companions, is delighted to be rated 'good' following a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The CQC, the independent regulator of health and social care in England, visited the long-established homecare company to look at how well-led and safe the care services delivered by the company are. Against both areas the CQC rated the services as ‘good’ adding to the company’s existing rating of ‘outstanding’ for the quality of care provided and 'good' overall.

“We know from the feedback we get from our clients and their families that our services are high quality and very much valued. However it is great to have the official rating of ‘good’ from the CQC following their in-depth assessment. It is a real endorsement of our service management and the high level of care and dedication of our staff team,” said Mickala Baker, Care and Business Manager, Carers and Companions.

In reporting their findings, the CQC identified that “feedback about care workers was consistently positive” with clients and their relatives telling inspectors that care staff were skilled and did their job well with one relative stating that: “We can’t rate them highly enough. We have had the carers since 2018, they are very caring and thorough”.

The CQC visit was carried out due to the length of time since the last inspection of the company which took place in 2017. The CQC suspended their in-person routine inspections during the COVID pandemic and have in recent years revised their inspection framework.

“We very much welcomed the CQC inspection as we are confident in the quality of our services though equally are always looking for opportunities to continually improve what we do” said David Edwards, Registered Manager at Carers and Companions.

“Having the detailed assessment of independent inspectors together with the views of our staff, other professionals, clients and their relatives, helps us to keep improving so that we maintain our reputation as a trusted local provider of best quality care services.”

Ilkley-based Carers and Companions is owned and run by the charity Ilkley Community Enterprise Ltd.

The company provides care and support services to older people, adults with disabilities, learning disabilities or health conditions, helping them to be as independent and healthy as possible in their own homes and in the local community.
