A LARGER toilet with more facilities is planned to make Ilkley town centre more accessible for people with disabilities.

A Changing Places toilet block is to be erected in the South Hawksworth Street Car Park. The facility will be paid for by Bradford Council and Ilkley Town Council will be responsible for maintaining it.

The facility will have extra equipment and space to enable people with profound and multiple learning or physical disabilities to use the toilets safely and comfortably.

Ilkley Town Mayor Councillor Karl Milner said: "This is another measure to help the vulnerable. It is a much needed facility offering disabled people access to town more easily.

“Doing our bit to look after vulnerable people is becoming a hall-mark of the Town Council and I am grateful to Councillors and to Bradford for finding a way to support the new toilet block.”

A spokesperson for Bradford Council said: "Bradford Council is committed to inclusion and we are pleased, in conjunction with central government, to support the funding of this Changing Places toilet for Ilkley. Accessible facilities like these are vital for disabled people or those limited in mobility."
