THE doom and gloom of the current financial situation did nothing to deter villagers from buying Christmas gifts at Menston Arts Club Autumn exhibition.
Sue Brearley, of Menston Arts Club said: "A fantastic collection of paintings, jewellery, craft and artworks were purchased during the show held at Kirklands Community Centre in the village. A variety of works by club members including pastel, oil and water colour paintings were shown. The exhibition attracts hundreds of visitors each year providing a showcase and selling point for local artists.
"For many the show is a meeting place, getting together for a catch up over a coffee and homemade cakes after enjoying looking round. It's a real social event in the village and we were delighted with the support from the community.
"This November our chosen charity was Aquabox. It provides fresh drinking water and humanitarian aid to people affected by natural disasters and conflict. More information can be found at www.aquabox.org
"Members of the club are are already looking forward to the next exhibition on the weekend of May 11th and 12th."
