THE local Labour Party has selected Ian McCargo as Labour candidate for Otley and Yeadon in the city council elections on May 4th, 2024.

Ian was Labour’s city council candidate in the May 2023 elections, in which he narrowed the gap between Labour and the sitting Liberal Democrat. Labour’s Nigel Gill won a town council seat in Manor ward, joining Richard Davies, who was re-elected in Danefield ward.

“The May election results show Labour is winning back voters in Otley and Yeadon,” said Ian. “Every month since May, the local Labour team and I have been knocking on doors, listening to residents about local challenges such as housing problems, traffic, parking, and bus services, and helping to solve problems where we can.

“Residents tell me they’re tired of councillors they never see, who just complain. People are crying out for effective city councillors who will look for solutions, make changes and improve services and facilities in our area. Otley and Yeadon deserve better. We don’t yet have a Labour city councillor, but voters can change that and get the city council to do so much more for Otley and Yeadon.”
