IT was a sad day for Otley when Patisserie Viennoise closed its doors on November 18, when Trevor Backhouse retired.

The bespoke confectioners and chocolatiers had served the people of Otley since 1986 and will be greatly missed.

Patisserie Viennoise brought a little bit of France and the continent to Otley, with Trevor's experience whilst working in France providing inspiration for his businesses's products, particularly the continental gateaux and desserts.

Patisserie Viennoise was made famous following a feature on television show The Hairy Biker's and they have proudly worked with Emmerdale, ITV and other celebrities.

In 2015 the patisserie's owner Trevor Backhouse received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Otley and District Chamber of Trader.

He was presented with the honour in recognition of his work to support local business.

In May this year Trevor was presented with an Honorary Citizen Award by Otley Town Council for the significant role he has played in Otley community life, through his much loved shop and also his support for the business community on the Chamber of Trade Committee and his charitable endeavours in the Freemasons.
