EARBY Cricket Club have announced Sri Lankan Raveen Yasas and South African Stefan Breuninger as their respective professional and overseas amateur signings ahead of the 2024 North West Cricket League season.

Yasas is a left-handed top order batter and slow left arm orthodox bowler who currently plays for Chilaw Marians in first class cricket in Sri Lanka, and he has previously played for Kandy in the 2023 National Super League four-day tournament as well.

He stands out as being a batting all-rounder who averages over 37 in first class cricket, while he has a top score of 118 not out and over 26 in List A cricket.

This will be Yasas’ first experience of league cricket in the UK, but he comes highly recommended by Colne's professional Geeth Kumara and Great Harwood's current professional Thikshila De Silva

He will be the club’s third Sri Lankan professional following in the footsteps of Ashen Bandara in 2019 and Prasansana Jayamanne in 2021.

Overseas amateur, Breuninger is a right-handed top order batter and right arm medium fast seam bowler from Cape Town in South Africa and he currently plays for Durbanville Cricket Club. He has also previously represented Peninsula Patriots in the Cape Town Premier League (CPL) as well as Paarl Boys High First XI whilst at school.

This year he travelled up to Scotland and played for Irvine Cricket Club in the Western District Cricket Union where he scored 990 runs in all competitions at an average of 41.25, with a top score of 119 not out. He also scored 31 wickets at an average of 18.58 with a best of 5/15.

Earby commented: “We look forward to welcoming both Raveen and Stefan to the Applegarth next year and hope they both have successful seasons with us.”
