ON Thursday, November 23 at 7.30pm at Church House the Ilkley Civic Society’s Local History Hub is presenting an illustrated talk on the Victorian transformation of Ilkley.
The talk will be given by Alex Cockshott and Robert Templar as part of the Ilkley Arts Festival.
The talk will show the quiet village Ilkley was in the first half of the century. There was gradual change with the first Hydros and the culveting of Brook Street. In the 1860s the railway arrived, increasing the value of land and enabling the Middeltons to sell the land for the houses which grew the village.
There will be opportunity to look at the display boards about the 1867 Land Sale.
The talk will be followed by seasonal refreshments.
