A SUCCESSFUL bridge tournament combined with an afternoon tea held at Kirklands, Menston raised over £650 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Janet Leach was invited to be tournament director and Soroptimist Libby Chappell organised the afternoon tea. Claire Deakin, the charity fundraiser for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, shared the news with Ilkley Soroptimists that there are two new helicopters in operation and now there will always be a doctor on board in addition to paramedics who have operated the scheme in the past.

The Air Ambulance costs £19,000 per day to operate. Claire highlighted the importance of public donations, including the contributions raised through the Air Ambulance Textile Bank which is situated in the Menston Library car park.

The cheque was handed over by Dr Sue Butler, the President-Elect of the Yorkshire Region and a member of Ilkley Soroptimists. Eight Ilkley Soroptimists were recently in London attending the Soroptimist National Conference and to support Sue in accepting her new role.
