A MAN was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive near a wooded area.

West Yorkshire Police was called to Calverley Cutting, near the Apperley Bridge entrance, at 8.16am to reports of a concern for safety.

Officers rushed to the area and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is not "believed to be suspicious", a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police told the Telegraph & Argus.

A full statement from force said: "At 8.16am today (Wednesday), police received a concern for safety report relating to a male who had been found unresponsive in Calverley Cutting, Calverley. 

"Officers attended and the male was pronounced dead at the scene. 

"His death is not believed to be suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
