WALKERS are being invited to donate their unwanted outdoor gear to support homeless people this winter.

In a joint initiative with the Leeds based charity, Homeless Hampers, Burley-in-Wharfedale Walkers are Welcome are hosting an appeal for waterproof coats and trousers, trainers and boots, rucksacks and sleeping bags this Saturday (November 18).

The group will be collecting items at Burley Library between 10am and 1pm. Donations should be clean and in reasonable condition, and could include smaller items such as gloves, socks and hats.

David Asher, Chair of Burley in Wharfedale Walkers are Welcome said: "This time of year can be especially challenging for women and men that are facing life on the streets in Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield.

"Homeless Hampers volunteers provide much valued support for some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, helping them to get back on track with their lives through sourcing help and support.

"Burley Library is already a collection point for the Homeless Hampers Christmas Sack appeal for toiletries, sweets and snacks etc. However, we hope anyone with surplus outdoor gear will bring it to our stall at the Library on Saturday, and we will ensure it gets continued good use in the future."
