SKIPTON Tennis Centre (STC) has achieved a remarkable feat by dominating in three divisions this season.
The local tennis powerhouse, located on Engine Shed Lane opposite Sandylands Sports Centre, demonstrated unparalleled skill, strategy, and teamwork by winning first place in its Men’s and Women’s doubles, as well as its Mixed Doubles teams; A win never achieved before in the history of the Bradford and Wharfedale League.
In addition, another first for the club, STC hosted three Intra Club Padel Leagues, and trophies were awarded to the winning pairs; Andrew Peart and Oliver Robinson, as well as Cath Archer and Kath Brammah.
Team captain and STC coach, Adam Gregory [pictured] scooped the ‘Player of the Season’ award; winning all 20 games he competed in and led the Men’s doubles team to victory.
STC members Louise Harrington and Lis Eastham headed-up the winning Women’s team, and captain of the Mixed Doubles, Zoe Lenka, guided the team to victory. The ladies third and mixed fourth teams also gained promotion this season.
The winners were all presented their awards at the end of season ceremony at Herriots Hotel in Skipton, where they were joined by other clubs from the Bradford and Wharfedale league.
Commenting on the outstanding achievement, Adam Cox, owner and founder of STC, said: “I can’t express how proud I am of the team’s dedication and hard work. Winning the top three divisions across the Men’s, Ladies and the Mixed league is a massive achievement, and a testament to how much our players have developed in such a short period of time; as STC is one of the youngest clubs in the league. We are immensely proud of their achievements and the positive impact this will have at STC. The team’s success is truly a collective effort from everyone involved."
The centre, which was crowned National Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Club of the Year in 2018, is committed to providing a community-led club with an ethos of providing a place where everyone can “…try, learn and play tennis and padel.”
Adam Cox continued: “We’ve had so many highlights this season it is impossible to mention them all, however I’d like to personally thank all the past, current and future captains, and volunteers – without you none of this would be possible. Also, our coaching team who all care deeply and are very passionate about the job they do.
“And thank you to every single person who hit a ball at STC this season – you are all supporting the future of our club.”
