A FRIENDS of Ilkley Moor Working Party and Bradford Countryside Service have built steps up to the Backstone Beck Stanza Stone, making it much more accessible for visitors.

The work was completed just in time for Tom Lonsdale’s talk at Ilkley Literature Festival on ‘Creating the Stanza Stones Poetry Trail’ which took place on October 22nd.

The Poetry Trail was the outcome of a collaboration, over a decade ago, between Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, and Ilkley Literature Festival.

Tom Lonsdale, landscape architect, worked with Simon Armitage and stone-carver Pip Hall, to create the Stanza Stones - six stones at key points of the 47-mile watershed between Marsden (where Armitage grew up) and Ilkley.

A Guide for the Stanzas Stone Trail can be downloaded from Ilkley Literature Festival’s website.
