FULL Circle Funerals has been named Green Funeral Director of the year 2023 in the national AGFD Good Funeral Awards.

The company, which was founded in Guiseley and now has four Yorkshire services including one in Ilkley, was recognised for its approach to green funerals, its commitment to being a sustainable business and its wider efforts to improve knowledge about how to achieve net zero funeral care.

Sarah Jones, founder of Full Circle Funerals, said: “We are delighted to have been named Green Funeral Director of the Year and are always pleased to support people who want to consider the environment in the choices that they make. We also work hard to try to think about how Full Circle impacts the environment and to support other organisations in our local communities who are doing the same.”

Full Circle Funerals has its own electric hearse and offers a wide range of eco-friendly options such as cardboard coffin, wool caskets and shrouds. It also has a great working relationship with Natural Burial Grounds such as Tarn Moor and Brocklands in and around Yorkshire.

In the past year Full Circle has spearheaded a £20,000 Crowdfunding campaign to collate new data to help people make planet friendly choices about what will happen to them when they die. The successful fundraising enabled research by Planet Mark into the environmental impact of certain funeral choices.

The company was the first UK funeral director to receive B Corp Certification and regularly monitors its own emissions and behaviours to reduce carbon impact.

Commenting on the award win, Helen Neave, director of Make It Wild, said: “Full Circle Funerals epitomises what it means to be ‘green’.

“I have known Sarah and her team for a few years. My business has planted trees for them, and we have also hosted an ‘away day’ where the team came to do some conservation volunteering. It is quite clear that helping the planet is really important to them.

“They offer an electric hearse and ecofriendly coffins, but being ‘green’ goes further than that, and Full Circle Funerals thoroughly deserve this award.”

Full Circle Funerals also won the same award in 2021and this is testament to their ongoing commitment towards the planet.
