THE weather forecast for the Bramhope Village Show last Sunday, September 10, was ominous.
After days of scorching sunshine, there were warnings of thunderstorms for the afternoon of the show.
The tennis courts and the forecourt of the Village Hall already housed the marquee and gazebos over the many stalls, but on Sunday morning, while the judging was taking place, more gazebos and awnings were pressed into service.
Fortunately the weather gods were kind. The sun shone as record crowds came to the show and the first drops of rain only arrived as stalls and stands were being packed away.
From 1pm when the doors opened visitors could enjoy the wide range of stalls from local businesses, charities and churches, wonder at the variety and quality of the record entries for the competitions, watch the Fancy Dress and Family Pet parades and see a demonstration of Karate from Blade Martial Arts.
Recycled performed hits from the past; PartyMania delighted children in a whirl of comical activity. The afternoon teas in the Hall, the homemade cake stall and the bars and BBQ did a roaring trade.
Rachel Dunn, Chair of the Show Committee, said: “Yet another record-breaking year: more visitors, more stalls than ever before, and bumper entries for the competitions. It’s particularly pleasing to see so many imaginative entries for the Junior classes such as Lego modelling, miniature garden and the vegetable animal.
"I’d like to thank local businesses for their fantastic support, through their stalls and advertising in the programme, and all the organisations and helpers who put in such hard work to make the show a success.
"We haven’t completed counting the takings but we I think we will be handing over a record amount to support the Village Hall. And I’d like to make a plea for volunteers to join the organising committee. As the show grows in popularity we need more villagers to lend a hand to make the show a success.”
