THE chair of Bramhope & Carlton Parish Council, Hilary Harris, is to play non-stop table tennis for seven hours on Saturday (September 16) at Bramhope Village Hall to help to raise money for charity.

Every year the Parish Council adopts a charity with a view to raising awareness and funds. Inspired by the fact that the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon came through Bramhope in May, the Council decided to adopt both the Leeds Hospital Charity (The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease) and the Motor Neurone Disease Association, with any money raised being divided equally between both.

Hilary was inspired to take on the challenge when she saw the number of people running the marathon, some of whom had never run before.

“My challenge seems insignificant compared to the Marathon but it's a fun way to raise some money” said Hilary. “I have done 5 and 6 hour challenges in the past and the number 7 is significant as it was the number on Rob's shirt when he played rugby."

The challenge takes place between 10am and 5pm and people are invited to come along to help keep the playing going. Accompanied children are also welcome as there will be a second table available for people to play for fun. Anyone wishing to donate may do so via Hilary's Just Giving Page for the MNDA or they may make a donation on the day.
