Homebuilder, David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West has donated £500 to community led litter-management group, Wharfedale Wombles.

After recently launching its Centurion Meadows development in Burley-in-Wharfedale, the homebuilder sought to support the community group after hearing about the positive impact the volunteers at Wharfedale Wombles have in keeping the local area safe and clean.

Wharfedale Wombles was set up by Loraine Hughes and her son in 2019, with the support of Burley-in-Wharfedale Community Trust, and highlights the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling and protecting local nature through ongoing monthly community litter picks.

Sales Director of David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West Sam Wood said: “David Wilson Homes is dedicated to creating green and pleasant places to live and supporting communities and organisations across the Yorkshire region. Wharfedale Wombles is a selfless, community-led organisation, which educates people of all ages on the importance of looking after their local area, for the good of residents and local nature.

“We are delighted to be able to support their cause, and hope that our donation allows them to continue running voluntary sessions throughout the year and gives local nature clean spaces to thrive.”

Loraine Hughes, Head Wharfedale Womble and a Burley in Wharfedale Community Trust Trustee said: “Thank you for supporting our community-led initiative. Caring for our environment needs stakeholder support and action from both individuals and organisations to help make a real difference. In the last few years, residents have considered and improved their homes and green spaces within and beyond the village with a wide variety of initiatives including eco-energy systems, rewilding, sharing of resources, recycling and repairing. This donation will enable us to continue and expand on these actions.”
