THE 2023 Bookmark Project raising money for Katiyo Primary School in Zimbabwe - created and run by 1st Burley-in-Wharfedale Brownies - has raised a fantastic £14,200 towards the building of new nursery classrooms.

The project saw celebrities, authors and illustrators draw, paint and doodle hundreds of bookmarks which were then auctioned for the Brownie group's fundraiser.

Brownie leader Sharon Hattersley said: "The Brownies would like to thank all the authors, illustrators and celebrities who doodled a bookmark and everyone who placed a bid. We are delighted to announce that building work on the two new nursery classrooms at Katiyo Primary School has begun. The site has been levelled and work is continuing on the foundations of the new buildings. We are hoping that the first phase of building will be completed by September and that phase two will start soon after.
