THE exhibition of the Otley Yorkshire Day Pub Photo Competition is to open on Yorkshire Day, Tuesday, August 1.

It will run until Sunday, August 6 in the Stables of the Black Horse Hotel in Otley. The exhibition is to be opened by the Otley Town Mayor and Bellman at 7pm on August 1 who will together also announce the three winners of the competition. The competition has been organised by Otley Pub Club with the support of Otley Camera Club.

There were entries featuring many of the pubs in Otley. The photos were judged not necessarily on the quality of the photograph, but on what the photo meant to the person submitting it.

The exhibition is open to all in the Stables Yard and the Black Horse look forwards to welcoming people during the week to come and see it and have a drink.

All the entries have been printed and put up on display boards, along with over 100 other prints depicting life in and around Otley’s pubs. There is also a video slideshow on the big screen with some 300 plus photos featuring pubs past (with thanks to Otley Museum) and present. The display has been planned and coordinated by Otley Pub Club and Otley Camera Club.

The three winners of the gold, silver and bronze awards will receive £100, £50 and £25 respectively. The judging will take place in advance of the Yorkshire Day launch by a panel made up of the Town Mayor and representatives from both Otley Pub Club and Otley Camera Club.

The exhibition runs from the opening on Tuesday, August 1 to Sunday, August 6 from noon to 8pm, with a break on Thursday.

Bob Brook, Project Coordinator of Otley Pub Club said: “We’re looking forward to the opening of the Yorkshire Day pub photo exhibition in the Black Horse Stables. We’re pleased to have a great array of photos and look forward to announcing the winners. We hope all local pub lovers will come and see the exhibition and show their support for Otley’s famous pubs.”

Stephen Tonkin, Secretary of Otley Camera Club said: “It’s been great working with Otley Pub Club to deliver this fun photo competition, which has allowed people to get involved and take photos on cameras and phones, celebrating Otley’s rich history as a pub town. We hope to see people coming to the exhibition to see the photos and to have a pint!”
