A new tree trail booklet has just been published for Ben Rhydding.

The mile-long trail starts at St John’s church and takes about 80 minutes visiting 45 different species of trees. Ben Rhydding resident Chris Forshaw researched and published the trail with expert advice from Bruce Brown who leads the Wharfedale Naturalists botany group. Chris said: “Once I started looking at the trees in the area I was amazed at how many different species there were, from old favourites like the English Oak to more exotic trees like the Tamarisk and Deodar.

“If I had to pick my favourite Ben Rhydding tree, it would be a tough choice but I would probably go for the huge beech on the corner of Ben Rhydding Drive outside the Methodist church - number 14.2 on the trail.”

The 16-page booklet is available free of charge in Ilkley at the Visitors Centre, The Grove Bookshop and the Clark-Foley Centre, and in Ben Rhydding at St John's church, the Wheatley Arms and the Pranzo Italian Restaurant. This is the fifth in the series of Tree Trails around Ilkley. The other four were published by Sue and Neil Stevens in 2022 and are available from the Ilkley outlets. The Trails can also be downloaded from ilkleytrees.org.uk where there are more resources on trees in Ilkley.
