Guiseley's Megan Richmond successfully raised over £700 for the charity Water Aid on Saturday (June 24) by swimming the entire 5.25 mile length of Coniston water.

As a keen swimmer with both City of Bradford and Bradford Swimming Clubs Meg is no stranger to the pool, but this was her first venture into open water and also swimming in a wetsuit.

Meg prepared well, taking training advice from her fellow club member and experienced open water swimmer Ruth Rhodes. This paid dividends as Meg finished first in the 16-19 female age group, seventh fastest female competitor and 22 overall from the 600 plus men and women who competed in the Aquasphere Chillswim 10th anniversary event.

Meg dedicated this swim in memory of her uncle Mike Banton who sadly died suddenly earlier this year at the age of 53. As an civil engineer Water Aid was his chosen charity and Meg wanted to raise funds by doing this swim challenge.
