OTLEY’S MP, Alex Sobel, has expressed deep concerns over the recent decision to withdraw National Health Service (NHS) dentistry services from Manor Square Dental Practice in Otley.

He said: "The sudden discontinuation of these vital dental services has left many residents in the area without accessible and affordable oral healthcare.

"Manor Square Dental Practice has been a reliable provider of NHS dentistry services to the local community for several years. Its withdrawal from the NHS scheme not only affects current patients but also raises serious questions about the future availability of affordable dental care in the area. The decision appears to be, yet another symptom of the chronic underfunding and neglect faced by the NHS.

"As a Member of Parliament, I find it deeply concerning that dental practices like Manor Square Dental Practice are being forced to abandon the NHS due to financial pressures and lack of support from the government. Oral health is an integral part of overall well-being, and accessible dental services are crucial to ensure the health and happiness of our constituents.

"The withdrawal of NHS dentistry services from Manor Square Dental Practice will undoubtedly have a disproportionate impact on vulnerable groups, such as low-income families, elderly individuals, and those with disabilities, from whom I have already received numerous emails.

"These groups are already facing significant challenges in accessing essential healthcare services, and the removal of affordable dental care further exacerbates their difficulties.

"I have written to the Secretary of State for Health Steve Barclay MP, to urge them to take immediate action to address the situation.

"I have also tried to contact Manor Square Dental to discuss the situation with them, but to date they have not responded. It is totally unacceptable that they refuse to meet with the elected representative of their patients with such a retrograde step for dental health in Wharfedale. It is a complete dereliction of duty towards their patients.

"It is essential that alternative arrangements are made promptly to ensure that the residents of Otley and the surrounding areas have access to the dental care they need.

"I will continue to lobby the Government on this issue. It is my firm belief that no one should be denied the basic right to free or affordable dental care at a local Dentist Practice, and I will continue to fight for the interests of my constituents and their well-being.

"I encourage all affected individuals to contact my office with their concerns and experiences.

"I assure my constituents that I will be holding the government accountable for the provision of essential healthcare services in our communities."
