Searching for a mouthwatering, authentic curry right on your doorstep? Ashiana, renowned throughout the Midlands for the quality of their Bangladeshi-inspired dishes, have established a third takeaway in Ilkley.

Saiqul Miah opened the first Ashiana Indian and Bangladeshi takeaway in North Muskham, Nottinghamshire in 2009. Over the next decade, Saiqul and his three brothers gathered an array of national awards for their delicious food and exceptional service. Now, they are proud to announce the opening of a third Ashiana takeaway in Wells Road, Ilkley on 31st May.

Ashiana has been named Restaurant of the Year 2022 at the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards (ARTA), TripAdvisor Traveller's Choice in 2020, 2021 and 2022 as well as being a finalist at the English Curry Awards 2019. After much customer demand, the second Ashiana Takeaway opened its doors in Long Bennington, Lincolnshire in July 2017.

We explore the origins of the business, their values and commitments as well as the influence of their heritage on the cuisine.

Family owners born and bred in Yorkshire

The Miah family has deep roots in Yorkshire, and retain a close connection to their extended family in Bangladesh. Saiqul’s grandfather emigrated from Bangladesh, then East Pakistan, to Hull in 1945 and his grandmother arrived in 1954. Saiqul and his brothers grew up in Yorkshire and retain fond memories of their childhood.

The manager of the upcoming Ilkley takeaway is Forhad Miah, whose expertise and dedication ensured the renovation project progressed during the Covid-19 pandemic. As well as installing top-of-the-line tandoor ovens and kitchen equipment, Forhad has already been making friends in the area – inviting curious prospective customers to take a look at the building work and have a chat.

Opening a brand-new takeaway in their home county is a dream come true for the Miah brothers. To celebrate this homecoming, Ashiana invite the local Ilkley community to a taster event on the 30th May. Everyone is welcome to sample the delicious delicacies on offer from 2pm to 6pm.

Whether you fancy a tender Tandoori chicken or a tangy lamb madras, you’ll find a little bit of everything on offer.

Traditional and flavoursome cuisine made to order

Despite growing up in the idyllic dales of Yorkshire, the Miah brothers have maintained strong ties with Tajpur, their ancestral village in Bangladesh. The Head Chef, Shimul Ahmed, is their brother-in-law and grew up in Bangladesh – absorbing the local flavours, cooking techniques and how to utilise fresh ingredients.

To this day, Shimul adds spices to his dishes that originate from Tajpur, ensuring that the cuisine served in Ilkley and beyond retains the authentic flavour of Bangladesh. Unbeknownst to many British diners, Bangladeshi cuisine is remarkably different from traditional Indian cuisine with unique ingredients, cooking processes and flavours.

Shimul is extremely flexible and creative with his cooking, ensuring that customer satisfaction is the top priority for Ashiana. Every single curry is freshly made to order, and the experience of Shimul and his team means that customer preference is the cornerstone of their cooking.

If a customer wants to enjoy the depth of spices in a madras or vindaloo without the heat associated with the dish, they can make it milder without compromising on the flavour. Additionally, the naan breads are made fresh every day and can include fillings that are not on the menu if given enough prior notice.

The highest standards of service

Ashiana put great emphasis on their service, ensuring that food arrives within a timely manner and customers are always taken care of. The staff always make an effort to remember and honour anniversaries and special occasions for their customers, and love to get to know them as friends.

Whilst they operate on a collection only basis, this gives customers the opportunity to speak with Ashiana staff face to face. Welcoming people into their takeaway, making a real effort with presentation and upholding the highest service standards are major priorities for Ashiana.
