GUISELEY Theatre is on the lookout for enthusiastic individuals to join their team of volunteers to coincide with ‘The Big Help Out’, part of the Coronation celebrations in May.

In January, Buckingham Palace announced that "In tribute to His Majesty The King's public service, The Big Help Out will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas. The aim of The Big Help Out is to use volunteering to bring communities together and create a lasting volunteering legacy from the Coronation Weekend."

In this spirit, Guiseley Theatre is hoping to inspire people to sign up and get involved with the running of the 156 year old building.

Jacob Phillips, Managing Director of the Theatre, said: “Currently we have around 20 volunteers who help keep the building going. We’re hoping to bring that number up to 150 in the next few months. We have a really great team, but with the covid restrictions now far behind us, we are finally getting busier again, and we need the people in place to keep up! It’s a great problem to have after the last few years.”

The theatre has nine different roles for volunteers to fill including stewards, bar tenders, backstage crew, fundraisers, maintenance and photographers.

With varying degrees of training and perks on offer, the intention is to build a thriving community that can see Guiseley Theatre flourish over the next 156 years.

Simon, who joined the volunteer team in October last year said: “It’s great to get involved with a different community. There is obviously a theatre family, and it's a warm one! The chance to learn what happens behind the scenes is a real bonus!”

“When we heard about the King’s plans for ‘The Big Help Out’ we thought it was too good to be true,” Phillips continued. “I’ve always said there’s a job for everyone in the theatre, and this building is one that you can very easily fall in love with. We’re all passionate about keeping this building alive and bustling, and now, it seems, so is the King…well, sort of!”
